Grey gabardine is the right base for this kind of work — it holds the embroidery flat without distortion and lets the sequins catch light without competing with the fabric itself. The grey reads as a neutral, which means the colour in each motif does the work rather than fighting a background colour.

Wear it open over a white shirt, a slip dress, or a plain top. The embroidery is the outfit — everything else stays simple.

Measurements are of the garment laid flat. This vest is unlined and open-front — sizing is relaxed across both options.

The hand-finished edge

Every edge of this vest is blanket-stitched by hand — the full front opening, both armholes, the hem. It is worked one stitch at a time in contrast thread, and it is the reason the vest takes as long as it does to finish. A machine overlock would take minutes and look like it. This doesn't.
